On Wednesday, 8th March 2023, the annual International Women's Day, we celebrated all the amazing women in our lives. And in the spirit of the IWD, Red Story today features three amazing women whose works greatly impact tech as we know it today. Enjoy the ride.
Ada Lovelace -the woman who invented coding
Back at the beginning of computer programing is where we find Ada Lovelace. Born in 1815, she is regarded as one of the pioneers of computer programing. Her work on Analytical Engine laid the foundation for what we know today as coding. The programing language ADA is named after her.
Margaret Hamilton -took humans to the moon and back
Every time we use the title "software engineer", one of the people to thank is Magaret. She is one of the people who coined the term. She is also one of the first software engineers. Magaret led the team of computer scientists that developed the flight program for NASA’s Apollo Program. Thanks to their code, Apollo 11 landed humans on the moon for the first time in 1969.
Grace Hopper -Grandma COBOL
Grace was a mathematician, computer scientist and US Navy rear admiral. She invented the first computer compiler that was later used to develop the COBOL programming language. Nicknamed “Grandma COBOL”, she is one of the most-recognized women in the tech world for her contributions to computer programming and software development.
One thing about these pioneers is that they are all mathematically savvy. And this was at a time when these fields were dominated by men. Because they refused to be intimidated, they excelled and gave the world the gift of technology through their works.
